Yes Mommy Dearest

One of my pet-peeves is seeing people standing around doing nothing.

Then spin

a wheel of string
rope to play hangman with
buy time making
cardboard sleeves

just in case

drench a spineless shirt wet
without purpose
groove a grave in.

Hot coffee burns
lukewarm finger tips
nervously preparing
another lie–

There’s always something to be

re-stock stocked shelves

the wheel churning
dynamic stale Splenda

  1. Cool, that one tumbles along with real momentum and all the internal rhymes and word play make it real entertainment. It would be an excellent one for readings and podcasting.

    Thanks Paul.

“drench a spineless shirt wet / without purpose / groove a grave in.”

For me, those lines stand out, and for two reasons: the way the lines are cut, and the sarcasm (gotta love the layers of meaning there, especially when imagining the tone of voice used or the accompanying facial expression). 😉 Cheers.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment S.L.
